My name is Hasret and I’m coming from Cyprus. I am staying in Canada for 10 months and I have been have for 6 months. It is really hard to believe how time passed so fast. My aim for coming Canada is to improve my English.

It is really agood chance to improve your English and yourself, know different cultures and see different places. I remember my first day here as yesterday. I’m have for 6 months but my English improved a lot although I have 4 months left. I can understand it by not speaking Turkish very well when I talk with my parents and friends. Furthermore, I improved myself too  because you are by your own and you do everything by yourself, which means you learn life. Now, I can say that I’m not the person that I was in my country.

I love Canada, my host family. They are such a pleasant family that made me a part of the family. I’m so peaceful and happy here. My school is good too. There are lots of subjects that you can enjoy beside the basic ares. This year, I was so lucky because winter olympics was in Vancouver which is 2 hours for away the place that I live and I had a chance to experience it too. In addition, here is such a beautiful country and I experienced lots of things such as to see wholes, to play curling and hockey, to see snow and new places, to know other cultures and to know other people.

I really recommend you to do something like that because everybody can’t get a chance like that to experience and live. This is only once in a life-time. It is just like a dream and if you really want it, it will become real. For example, my mother never wanted me to come here but it was my goal and I thought that it is a dream but now the tdream come true and I ‘m living the thing that I was dreaming about… I hope you decide and experience this one life-time chance and make your life unforgetable with an adventure…

My name is Melis Aciksoz. I am in the tenth grade now. In this letter I want to tell about my life in Canada. Even when I was in the airport in Ankara it was so difficult to believe that I was going to Canada. Everything went perfect during the flight. I started feeling excited during the last flight to Nanaimo. I started thinking about what to do when I first saw my host family. But I wasn’t alone so that helped me to relax a little but; all of my friends were in the same situation as me.

I was in shok when we were in the airport of Nanaimo, because it was so small. It was not much bigger than a house. While I was drinking to my new home with my host family we had a nice conversation. We spoke about Turkey, what we were going to do before school started. At that time I was so happy that I didn’t have any difficulties with my English. To be honest untie I was alone in my room everything was perfect. When I was alone in my room I asked to myself “where I am, how I will get used to this place?” I was pretty worried.

When I woke up I saw the house and I learned that my host sister, from Germany, was going to be in Canada that evening. I was looking forward to meeting her. During the few days before school started our host family showed us Nanaimo. I really liked it.

On the first day of school I was so excited. It was very crowded. I felt better when I got into the room where all the internationals were. The first day was all about the rules, seeing the school and meeting with friends. Then we left early. Tuesday was the first day of classes. It wasn’t difficult to see the difference about education between Turkey and here. It was way easier in Canada. The most difficult part for me was the term of the lessons. But I got used to that pretty quick.

I had planning, Physical Education, Cooking, Media (computer) classes in the first semester and Maths, Science, Social Studies, English in the second semester. School was so enjoyable.

Everybody was so kind, considerate and helpful. I got to know new people everywhere I went. Now I have German, Chinese, Italian, Spanish, Portugese and Canadian friends which is great to have. Time passed so fast. I couldn’t believe how fast the first semester passed. Three weeks ago I was trying to prepare myself to say goodbye to my international friends who were going back to their countries. It was so sad and difficult to believe that they were gone. But I was so proud that I had a chance to get to know them. The sadness was all about my friends.

After school I played badminton on the school team, I went to dance fitness and tango. The best thing in my school is I think I have the best teachers ever. They are especially helpful.

At the end of the first semester I decided to stay and graduate from here. I still think the this decision to come here is best thing I have done. The most difficult part of this is missing Turkey.
